Microplastics aren’t a new problem but they are getting attention right now with the news that they are in our blood. These smaller plastic pollutants are found in waterways throughout the world and recent research has demonstrated harmful impacts on wildlife and people. Fortunately, there are eco-friendly solutions available but only if we put pressure on industry and government to make a positive change.

What Are Microplastics?

Plastic pollution is present in the environment in many different forms. Plastic materials find their way into the oceans through improper trash disposal, littering, and stormwater runoff. Some of the most prolific marine debris is washed down drains in the form of microplastics. Microplastics are tiny plastic pieces that are the size of a sesame seed or smaller.
