One Set of Rules for Both Parties
Ending the Double Standard in Politics

During the previous administration, a dangerous precedent was set by the refusal of Senate Republicans to stand up to their president. Rather than having one set of rules, they have played partisan games, changing the rules to fit their whims, to the detriment of the country. They demand perfection from their opponents, while their politicians can do whatever they want and break any law.
Two Sets of Rules for the Budget
Balanced budgets and alarm about the deficit are a constant refrain from Republicans when Democrats are president. When Bush was president, his Vice President, Dick Cheney, was warned about the impending financial crisis by then-Treasury Secretary Paul O’Neill. He famously said that “deficits don’t matter” even as they implemented large tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations while funding wars and driving the deficit up. As forewarned by O’Neill, the economy collapsed and millions lost jobs and their homes.
Suddenly, Obama became president and all they talked about for eight solid years was cutting spending and decrying the deficit, which was greatly reduced…
